Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is a String Quartet ?
A. In a string Quartet you have 2 violins, viola and cello. It's like a small orchestra. In broad terms it could be compared to a choir with each instrument taking the soprano (1st violin), alto (2nd violin), tenor (viola) and bass (cello) parts for the full harmony effect.

Q. Do you play as a String Trio (violin, violin/viola, cello) ?
A. Yes we do. While we usually play as a Quartet, we also play as a String Trio for venues where space is limited or if your budget doesn't stretch to a full Quartet.

Q. What is the difference between the Quartet and the Trio ?
A. The Trio does not always sound quite as full and complete as the Quartet (It misses the full harmony).

Q. What happens if a Quartet member is ill or on tour ?
A. We have have a number of top professional players who can stand in.

Q. What happens if it rains ?
A. If it rains we cannot play outside, it would damage the instruments, we need to be under cover.

Q. What happens if it's a really hot day ?
A. We cannot play in direct sunshine, it would damage the instruments. We can usually find suitable shade. Please ask the venue for all possible sitings.

Q. Do you have public liability insurance ?
A. Yes, through the Musicians Union.

Q. What do you need ?
A. 4 armless chairs. Please ask the venue.

Q. How do we make a booking ?
A. The client and the Quartet agree on the duration, start and finish times, fee etc and then sign a contract. On signing the contract the client will pay a 25% non-refundable deposit and the remainder in cash on the day.
